Baja Mexico and Scammon's Lagoon

The time off to head south is finally here! We were going to leave Yuma, AZ on Wednesday, 2/20, but changes in the weather, cold and snow at 2500 foot levels, have made us possibly leave a day early and head straight south to San Felipe and try to miss the snow, since the pass is about 4500 feet. The sudden changes s have us scrambling to finish getting the bike ready and packed, but we are both excited as our attempts at whale watching in the past have been boycotted by the whales. We will be using the SPOT GPS tracking device on the trip.

Smoke Chasing BBQ 2012

After a great finish and alot of fun in last years Smoke Chasing,  (SmokeChasing.com) I decided to give it another try.  2012 brought us a total of 15 BBQ restaurants in 15 states, but this year we a going for 30 BBQ's in 30 states, starting in NM, which is where I was when the contest started this year. After working in Las Cruces for a week we got a chance to pick up TX one afternoon. I didn't need to do it right then, since I will be in TX several times this year, but it looked like a good afternoon ride.

Where do you want to ride to tomorrow???

We are back in Chattanooga, TN after our impromptu trip to the Pacific ocean, just following the weather.  We left Pierre, SD after Melanie's Mom's funeral, but let me back up a few days. Our adventure began in Chattanooga with the birth of my first grandson, Caleb Sebastian Turp, to my son, Dallas and his wife, Jaclyn. After the first day of induced labor, Friday, August 19th, we got the phone call that Melanie's Mom had passed away after a long illness and funeral was scheduled for Monday afternoon.

I find that it's way past time to get caught up with the adventures of the past year. February found us heading west to Texas with my new to me VStrom 650 that I have purchased to do some off road riding in the TX, AZ, and NM area. After visiting the hill country of Texas we have arrived in Fort Davis, TX, which will be our base for the next couple days. This is a nice little town with a historic downtown area that has a neat B&B called The Veranda with a watering hole upstairs.

We just are returning from at great weekend with our AL Bmw friends at Kinderfest in Enterprise, AL. T-18 days and the lossof job/adventure begins. Please remember to say a prayer for Melanie, her Mom, and her family.

T-6 days. I am on call this weekend and it is time to finish the packing. Everything seems ready to go. First stop will be St. Augustine to say goodbye to our friends up there, then on to oysters in the panhandle with, who-else, our Alabeemer friends.
